About this property

Welcome to Hotel Ceilidh-Donia

Hotel Ceilidh-Donia is a low-key property housed in a Victorian townhouse located in a quiet area of Edinburgh, about an 11-minute walk from Holyrood Park and under 2 miles from Edinburgh Castle. Its straightforward décor and simple rooms provide a comfortable base, with amenities including free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a restaurant serving breakfast. The hotel also features a garden area and facilities designed to accommodate families and guests with accessibility needs.

The hotel earns praise for its welcoming and attentive staff, with several guests highlighting the friendly hosts and good customer service. Breakfast is often commended for its quality and variety, offering both a small made-to-order menu and buffet selections. While rooms are clean and generally comfortable, some visitors have noted occasional musty odors and signs of wear in certain areas, suggesting that the property’s age shows through in parts.

Location-wise, the hotel benefits from reliable bus connections that bring visitors to Edinburgh’s city centre within 15 to 20 minutes. This makes it a practical choice for those seeking a quieter neighborhood while remaining within easy access of major attractions such as Arthur’s Seat, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and the historic Royal Mile. The setting suits travelers looking for a calm, family-friendly environment with straightforward amenities.

Though not equipped with parking, a pool, or airport shuttle services, the hotel offers a smoke-free environment and a bar for evening relaxation. Its proximity to Edinburgh Airport (around 35 minutes by car) adds a measure of convenience for arrivals and departures. Overall, Hotel Ceilidh-Donia appeals to visitors prioritizing comfort, service, and location over luxury, especially those who appreciate a quieter setting outside the immediate city centre.

Our stay at Ceilidh-Donia was wonderful! The staff were very kind and helpful, always ready to give advice and with a smile. Breakfast was delicious and varied, and the room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. The area is quiet and pleasant, perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. There is a very good bus connection to the Royal Mile (about 15 minutes), and if you prefer walking, it’s around 30–40 minutes on foot. I highly recommend this place to anyone planning a stay in Edinburgh!

I really wanted to love this stay but I was immediately thrown off by the intensely musty/dank smell in our room. It was off putting and gave me a headache. They didn’t have any other rooms to switch us to. Luckily the owner Kevin was super kind and set us up with a fan to get some circulation. It smells like the carpets may need a really good steam clean and curtains need a wash. Otherwise it was a nice stay and clean bathroom.

Everything was great, hosts were nice and always helpful and they made as an amazing breakfast each morning. The location is perfect as it's around 30 minute walk from the center in a nice, quiet area, close to Hollyrood park and there are buses going to the center if needed.

Overall, my husband and I had a nice stay. The property is a bit worn down, but location and staff are great! Breakfast was very good as well - small menu to order from that is made fresh to order, along with a small buffet assortment. Our room had a strong musty smell that was hard to ignore and the room was fairly worn down, but room was very clean.

Small friendly hotel close to Arthur's Seat. Excellent bus links to city centre (20 mins). Quality breakfast. Our room was spacious with comfortable bed and a super hot shower. Note that rooms 1 & 18 are situated either side of the front door which can be noisy at night.

Everything was perfect! The breakfast was phenomenal – the Scottish breakfast, porridge, and scrambled eggs were absolutely delicious. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, and the bathroom was perfect with a large shower – everything was well taken care of. Kevin was very welcoming and super friendly, which made our stay even better! The location is super convenient too, just an 8-minute bus ride from the city center. Highly recommended!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Owners of this wonderful property on a regular basis, and I can confidently say that Susan and Kevin are among the most dedicated and thoughtful hosts I’ve encountered. Their genuine warmth, attention to detail, and guest-first approach truly set them apart. Every interaction with them reflects a deep commitment to creating a welcoming and memorable experience for their guests. Whether it's the thoughtful touches in the property or their personal engagement, they go above and beyond to ensure visitors feel not just accommodated, but genuinely cared for. Staying here isn’t just about a place to sleep - it's about being warmly welcomed to Edinburgh by Hosts who truly make it a priority to enhance each Guest’s stay. A wonderful experience all around!
